OK, so I'm not a big reader. I've made it clear. Short attention span. More than 20 words brings pain. So I never read the book 'Bridge to Terabithia'. Was I supposed to? The flashy little commercials made it look like a really fun fantasy-packed flick. Trolls with huge toes, walking trees.. forest creatures and some kingdom. They did NOT advise that the adorable and spunky little actress that you become attached to and want to bring home to be your buddy.. DIES! And just outright dies, not even like you're expecting it. One day she's a live.. next minute.. DEAD. And there are no fantasy creatures really, perhaps 2 minutes of forest creatures. It's just really dark. Mom is clearly suffering from depression. Dad is over worked and angry.. and the family is poor. Never a bright moment for either of those two. Two older sisters that are super glued to the TV, and a baby. There is one younger sister, she is very sweet. But Monkey selected it as his birthday night out with his little buddies. And there I am balling my eyes out. It just sucked. Had I been in the mood for dying children, I would have at least been prepared. So, it's what I get for not being a reader I guess. But I can't imagine why it would be promoted like it's a big children's film? A bit heavy for the kids attracted to the commercials I think. Oh, but I have to add MrNV's observation. In the first 2 minutes really, he was bitching about their diet :) They emphasize that the family is poor and living in a very run-down home. Yet, for breakfast, they're eating Cheerio's and Minute Maid. He was quick to point out that when you're low on cash, you're not buying name brand foods. Which is true! I sure remember when Ramen was a main food group :)
Lastnight we went to see 'The Astronaut Farmer'. We really enjoyed that one. It saved our weekend movie marathon :)
Now I'm watching Harrah's Lucky Break on our local TV. It's the most painful thing. A local casino bar that allows people to compete in karaoke. 80% of them can't sing at all. I can't change the channel, though. I keep hoping that someone will not be drunk or stumbling through the lyrics. ..sigh.. Perhaps one evening I'll live stream it on my cam thingy, because even Monkey is crying in pain :) AAAAAAAAAAHAHAH!!!
